A Strange Welcome, Part Two

This entry is part 2 of 2 in the series A Strange Welcome

Hello! So I was in my bed this morning, and I was thinking about my blog when I realized “Oh… I was supposed to get a post up yesterday!” I am so sorry I forgot. I had a very stressful day yesterday. I broke my mass scale for chemistry when the experiments were due that day. I wasn’t able to finish them, but at least I learned not to hold off doing things until the last day (a character trait I am trying to work on XD).  Sigh/Face-Palm Anyway, today is a new day! I’m so excited to share with you the second and final part of A Strange Welcome! So far that has been exactly the kind of Welcome Tenney and Chen have had. XD

There was an awkward silence. Finally, I had the guts to speak up. “I’m Tenney.”

“Yes! Right!” Chen said shaking her head from staring at the two other girls, “I’m Chen.”

There was more silence. Finally, Kit spoke up, “Oh yeah! Now I remember! I heard about you guys! I’m Kit.”

“I’m Julie,” she paused for a second, “but… you probably know that already… since everyone keeps yelling our names.”

They both smiled a little.

I grinned too. I was starting to understand these girls. “How true…” I sighed sarcastically.

Suddenly we all started laughing.

Julie calmed us down, “Hey, You guys a pretty cool,” she beamed, “not as cool as us… but pretty cool. Would you like to play some…”

“AHH!” I heard screaming behind me and turned around.

“And… that’s who we heard about you from.” Julie sighed.

“Yeah, much to Jewel’s dismay.” Kit chortled. “You’re coming was supposed to be a surprise. Sadly, Jewel tells Miss Big Mouth certain secret things just because she is her first doll. It never stays secret long.”

“I wonder why Jewel hasn’t quit doing that?” Julie was perturbed.

Mckenna (as we later learned) was too busy to hear.

I couldn’t put a word in. Mckenna was busy with her hobby: SPEAKING.

“Come on Kit, let’s go play football outside.” I heard Julie say through Mckenna’s never-ending chatter.

Soon they were gone.

Mckenna though, was ever present.

Chen couldn’t even say, “Thanks.”

After what seemed an eternity, another girl walked up. “Excuse me.”

“YES?!” Chen and I asked desperately.

Mckenna stopped.

“I’m sorry to interrupt…” the girl began.

“OH NO! Don’t be sorry!” Chen pleaded innocently.

The girl smiled knowingly. “My name is Marie-Grace. I heard you are our new sisters. Welcome! I wanted to ask if either of you would like to place the star on the tree?”

I looked at Chen. She shrugged.

I turned back to face Marie, “I guess I’ll do it.”

Marie-Grace walked past us, “Great! I’ll show you where to stand.”

“Wait! I wasn’t finished!” Mckenna protested.

Marie had me stand on a wooden crate. “This will help you reach the top of the tree,” she explained, “Stay right there while I go get the star.”

When Marie was gone Mckenna started talking to Chen again, “Last year I got to put up the star, but it’s totally fine that this year I not going to do that, because you guys are new, and I’m willing to let you do that because, you know, I’m humble.”

“MMM!” Chen interrupted quickly, “IS THAT PIE I SMELL?!”

“Pie?” Mckenna asked sniffing the air.

“PIE!” She ran to the kitchen.

“Whew!” Chen breathed strolling up to me. “I thought, we would never be free!”

“Me too,” I simpered.

“But… you know what?” She asked.

“I like this family.”

I coked my head in curiosity, “Yeah?”

“Yeah,” she replied confidently.

Suddenly I heard beautiful singing.

I shifted to my left. A girl was singing in one of the most beautiful voices I had ever heard.

“O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy leaves are so unchanging;
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy leaves are so unchanging;
Not only green when summer’s here,
But also when ‘tis cold and drear.
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy leaves are so unchanging!”

“Come on Raven!” She pleaded to Raven who was now standing beside her.

“Oh… alright, Melody.”

Melody kept on,

“O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Much pleasure thou can’st give me;
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Much pleasure thou can’st give me;
How often has the Christmas tree
Afforded me the greatest glee!
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Much pleasure thou can’st give me.”

While Raven tried in a nervously faltering voice, “O… uh… Chrismas Tree. O… Christ-mas TREE! ”

Chen and I watched in delight.

When they were finished Chen and I cheered.

Melody bowed sarcastically, “Thank You! Thank You!”

Raven stood behind her just blushing.

When Melody stood upright she stepped back when she saw us. “Wait. Who are you?”

Raven giggled coming over to her. “These are our new sisters!”

Melody smiled, “I can’t keep track of all these sisters.”

“Me neither,” I replied.

Chen laughed, “I’m sure we’ll know in time.”

Melody laughed too, “Well, to get you started, Raven and I are the youngest in the family.”

“Cool!” I chimed.

“Are you going to put the star on the tree?” She asked.

“Yeah, ” I said, “I…”

Suddenly Caroline rushed into the living room and yelled throughout the house, “Everyone finish up! It’s almost time for the star to be put up!!!”

All at once people started rushing into the living room. There was loud chaos as everyone tried to find their places.

In the midst of the confusion, Marie-Grace didn’t fail to hand me the star. “Here you go!” she tried to yell above the many voices.

The next thing I knew, all was quiet and I was surrounded by a bunch of waiting eyes.

“Um… I guess I’ll put the star on the tree now, ” I said almost to myself.

Slowly I turned around and placed the star on the top of the tree. It was a little crooked, I hoped nobody would be upset.

When I turned back around and stepped off the crate, everyone erupted in cheers.

Well, that’s how I met my family. I think I’m with Chen: I like this family. It sure was a strange welcome, but it had a great ending.

I hope this was enjoyable for you to read! I used every single American Girl Doll that both I and my sister have. Tell me how you liked it, and your favorite doll in the comments below! Bye for now!
